The MG3710E Vector Signal Generator is a best-of-class, high-function, signal generator with excellent RF and baseband performance. It is a vector signal generator with 6-GHz upper frequency limit and 160-MHz*/ 120-MHz wide RF modulation baseband generator. It outputs various radio systems signals for cellular communications, such as 5G, LTE FDD/TDD, W-CDMA, GSM as well as narrowband communications, such as WLAN, WiMAX™, Bluetooth™ and GPS.
* with option MX370111A WLAN IQproducer™ and MX370111A-002 802.11ac (160 MHz) only.
The MG3710E supports two separate built-in RF outputs (option). The frequency can be selected from 2.7/4.0/6.0 GHz. The two RF outputs can be set to different frequencies, levels and waveform data/CW. As a result, there is no need for two expensive vector signal generators.
The built-in signal generator function outputs both continuous wave (CW) and modulated signals for use as a reference signal source when testing Tx characteristics of parts and as a signal source for evaluating Rx characteristics.
For example: Wanted + Interference Signal, Wanted + Delayed Signal, and Wanted Signal of Different Sampling Rate
< -140 dBc/Hz (nom.) @ 100 MHz, 20 kHz offset, CW
< -131 dBc/Hz (typ.) @ 1 GHz, 20 kHz offset, CW
< -125 dBc/Hz (typ.) @ 2 GHz, 20 kHz offset, CW
SSB phase noise is an important performance index for signal generators.
For example, when using a signal generator for the following purposes, it is important to pre-confirm that the signal generator performance satisfies the measurement specifications.
Top-class ACLR performance supports measurement closer to the DUT's original ACLR performance. High ACLR performance increases margin specifications and improves measurement stability and yield.
For example: Evaluation of base station amplifiers, etc., requires excellent adjacent channel leakage power (ACLR) performance. Normally, the signal from the vector signal generator is inserted to an amplifier, and the amplifier output signal ACLR characteristics, etc., are measured with a spectrum analyzer. Instruments for these measurements require high ACLR performance.

The MG369xC series of broadband signal generators covers Audio, HF, VHF, UHF, RF and microwave frequencies from 0.1 Hz to 70 GHz in single coaxial output and up to 500 GHz or beyond, with external multipliers. In addition, it is easy to operate either through intuitive front panel controls or remotely via GPIB or Ethernet connectivity.
The MG369xC replaces the existing MG369xB signal generator, offering three levels of best-in-class SSB phase noise performance; Standard, Ultra low phase noise (option 3) and Premium phase noise (option 3X).along with full suite of modulation capabilities for signal simulations from simple to the most complex. For IQ modulation, the IF input option allows the easy up-conversion of an externally IQ-modulated RF signal. The MG369xC preserves full backward compatibility with the MG369xA/B and previous 68C/69B series of RF and microwave signal generators.
The MG369xC is the "ideal microwave signal generator" because it offers unsurpassed frequency coverage, the lowest phase noise, leveled output power, spectral purity, switching speed, modulation performance, size, upgradeability, reliability, and service. This signal generator is configurable for a broad range of applications from R&D to manufacturing and depot repair.
Two options are available to extend the 2 GHz low end frequency limit of the base models down to 8 MHz. Option 4 uses a digital down-converter (DDC) with successive divide-by-two circuitry. It offers the best phase noise performance of the two choices, at the expense of some analog performance < 500 MHz. In that range, analog sweep mode is not available, and pulse modulation performance is specified as typical. In addition, frequency and phase modulation mod index is scaled by the division ratio of each band of the DDC. Option 5 maintains all analog performance by using a heterodyne mixing down-converter, but does not improve phase noise performance.
If frequency coverage down to 0.1 Hz is desired, Option 22 can be added with either Option 4 or 5. Option 22 uses Direct Digital Synthesis (DDS) for CW and Step Sweep modes of operation. Modulation and analog sweep are not available in the DDS band. Frequency resolution < 10 MHz is 0.02 Hz. Output power across the complete instrument frequency range is degraded by 2 dB.
Phase noise is specified and guaranteed only with internal reference. In External Reference mode, the phase noise of the external supplied reference, and the selected external reference bandwidth, will dictate the instrument phase noise performance.
Phase noise is not degraded when adding high power Option 15. The MG369xC is ideal for LO substitution and clock generation applications.
Option 26 adds pulse modulation, driven externally via a rear panel BNC connector, TTL. For internal modulation, add Internal LF and Pulse Generators Option 27. Pulse modulation specifications apply at maximum rated power, unless otherwise noted. Pulse modulation is not available < 10 MHz with Option 22. With 100 ns leveled pulse widths, with 10 ns resolution along with the ability to generate, single, doublet, triplet and quadruplet pulses. The MG369xC is the most comprehensive emulation and test of high performance narrow pulse radars.
With internal and external AM, FM, Phase and Pulse modulation, the MG369xC is ideal for any type of analog signal emulation.
The High Output Power option eliminates the cost of an external amp, supports stable level accuracy measurements and reduces risk of damage to the DUT from the external amp.

It outputs various radio systems signals for cellular communications, such as 5G, LTE FDD/TDD, W-CDMA, GSM as well as narrowband communications, such as WLAN, WiMAX™, Bluetooth™ and GPS.
* with option MX370111A WLAN IQproducer™ and MX370111A-002 802.11ac (160 MHz) only.
The MG3710A supports two separate built-in RF outputs (option).
Absolute Level Accuracy: ±0.5 dB *1
Linearity: ±0.2 dB (typ.) *2
Excellent level accuracy and linearity are key factors with a large impact on measurement accuracy.
*1 400MHz to 3GHz, -110 to +10 dBm
*2 50 MHz to 3GHz, -110 to -1 dBm
The MG3710A supports high-speed switching in the sweep and list mode separately from normal remote control. It is ideal for production lines requiring short test times.
Sweep Mode |
List Mode |
In Sweep mode, the dwell time per point or number of points is split between the frequency range and level range (Start/Stop). This mode is used when matching dwell time per point and frequency / level steps. |
In List mode, the frequency, level and dwell time can be set for each of up to 500 points. This mode is used when wanting to set any dwell time, and frequency / level step per point. |

In conventional measurement setup, path loss is increased by the various external components in the RF path. Thus, an external amp is required when the output of the general signal source is insufficient.
The MG3710A High Power Extension option*1 improves signals required for path loss compensation. It eliminates the cost of an external amp, supports stable level accuracy measurements and reduces risk of damage to the DUT from the external amp.
